Under the direction of the Community Wellness Center (CWC) Leadership Team, the Community Wellness Coach leads and supports a variety of health and wellness programs—including nutrition education, food demonstrations, fitness classes (e.g., Zumba, Yoga, meditation), and personalized coaching—for IEHP members and the surrounding community. This role empowers participants across diverse lifestyles and backgrounds to take charge of their health through education, encouragement, and community connection.

The Community Wellness Coach facilitates group classes using and/or developing curriculum, implements effective teaching strategies, monitors participant progress, and maintains accurate records. They also provide one-on-one coaching, helping individuals set and achieve realistic wellness goals related to nutrition, movement, and overall well-being. The Community Wellness Coach ensures a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment, reports facility needs, and provides certified CPR/First Aid when necessary.

Education & Requirements 

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience as a nutrition coach or instructor directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified required
  • Specific experience teaching nutrition and developing nutritious meal plans in a group setting
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Associate’s degree from an accredited institution preferred
  • The following certifications must be obtained within the first three (3) months of employment if not already held:
    • Active Food Handler’s Card (Riverside and San Bernardino Counties)
    • Active CPR/First Aid Certification
    • ServSafe Certification
    • Mandated Reporter Training (to be completed within 30 days of hire)
    • Child Development Certification (to be completed within 90 days of hire)
  • Fitness/Nutrition Certification Requirement:
    • An active, unrestricted, and unencumbered group fitness, fitness, nutrition, or equivalent certification for all ages from an accredited program (such as NASM, ACE, ISSA, ACSM, AFAA, NCAA, or similar) is required upon hire.
  • Degree in Lieu of Certification:
    • In lieu of the required fitness/nutrition certification, a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology or a related field from an accredited institution may be accepted. However, individuals hired under this provision must register for and complete an approved group fitness, fitness, nutrition, or equivalent certification within the first six (6) months of employment.

Key Qualifications

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s license and valid automobile insurance
  • Must qualify and maintain driving record to drive company vehicles based on IEHP insurance standards of no more than three (3) points
  • Knowledge of:
    • Macronutrients, micronutrients, hydration, digestion, and metabolism
    • Exercise principles and group fitness dynamics
    • Kitchen and fitness equipment safety
    • Teaching strategies, music cueing, and choreography
    • Motivational Interviewing
  • Skill in the use of first aid procedures
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to
    • Work effectively with people of all ages, cultures, and skill levels
    • Positively support fitness and nutrition goals for members
    • Conduct safe and effective group classes
    • Effectively prepare and process administrative paperwork
    • Motivate and support participants with professionalism and care
    • Collaborate with other team members and community partners
  • Schedule & Hours: Minimum of 30 hours per week
  • Position includes extensive physical activity and requires strenuous physical work
  • Position requires a high degree of energy and endurance to complete the workouts
  • Position must remain flexible to ensure the hours meet the needs of customers (other IEHP Team Members seeking services)
  • This position requires travel to IE locations designated by Community Wellness Center (CWC) leadership to provide classes, if needed

Pay Range

  • $27.43 USD Hourly - $35.66 USD Hourly
