Position Summary/Position
Under the direction of the Director, Technology – Solutions Delivery, the Engineer III - Interoperability will act as the primary technical contact for internal and external EHR data integration. The Engineer III - Interoperability will implement, configure and test healthcare interoperability solutions. The Engineer III - Interoperability is expected to lead Interoperability Engineer team by example. In this role the Engineer III - Interoperability will follow coding standards throughout all aspects of the solution development to produce efficient and high-quality solutions.
Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)
1. Install and configure interface engines like Corepoint or NextGen.
2. Maintain process design artifacts like data flow diagrams, end user process maps and technical design documents.
3. Develop, test, and deploy interoperability and integration solutions based on business requirements using common and accepted industry applications and tools.
4. Analyze, assess, build, and maintain interfaces for all data exchange methodologies including: HL7, X12, FHIR, SQL, REST API and more.
5. Design and develop various data integration solutions to and from external EMR systems.
6. Lead the development and enhancement of CMS Interoperability Rules implementation including: Patient Access, Provider Access and Payer-to-Payer.
7. Evaluate existing application integration solutions and recommend improvements for performance efficiency.
8. Elicit and help configure integration tools or platforms necessary to achieve interoperability.
9. Participate in integration testing of internal and external applications.
10. Orchestrate and maintain data pipelines that meet security standards and ensure the integrity and quality of data.
11. Conduct code reviews.
12. Direct and mentor level I and II engineers.
13. Serve as a subject matter expert in interoperability related projects.
14. Stay up to date on interoperability concepts and standards.
15. Provide on call support for production performance/availability or other critical issues outside of normal business hours.
16. Clearly and regularly communicate with management, technical support colleagues and business units.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Experience Qualifications
Eight (8) years implementing HL7, IHE, or API interfaces. Eight (8) years working with a healthcare interface engine such as Corepoint. Eight (8) years implementing software development methodologies. Eight (8) years working with relational databases. Experience working with patient aggregation platforms like HIE. Experience managing and tuning EMPIs. Experience using Source Control and management tools such as Azure DevOps and Gitlab/GitHub. Experience transforming requirements into Design Concepts and ERDs using Visio and similar tools.
Education Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative discipline such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or Engineering from an accredited institution required.
Drivers License Required
Knowledge Requirement
Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws. Knowledge of common SDLC models (Waterfall, Agile - Scrum and Kanban). Understanding the practice of DevOps. Working knowledge of non-relational database (NoSQL) designs using MongoDB and others. Detailed knowledge of relational databases. Fluency with at least one scripting or programming language such as Python. Familiarity working with .Net code, WebAPIs, X12, HL7v2/v3, CCDA, FHIR and Hadoop platform. Knowledge of CMS Interoperability Program. Knowledge of common technologies and standards and other related integration protocols or interoperability toolsets.

Physical Requirements
A reasonable salary expectation is between $126,256.00 - $160,992.00, based upon experience and internal equity
