Position Summary/Position


Under the direction of the Manager, Compute & Collaboration, the Engineer III - Backup & Storage would be helping with the design, configuration and maintaining enterprise class storage devices- SAN’s, NAS and other network attached storage. The role would also design, configure, and maintain enterprise level backups using Veeam, BackupExec and other similar backup productions.

Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)


1. Support storage systems (Administration, Management, Troubleshooting and Operational).
2. Set up, secure, and maintain SMB and NFS shares.
3. Provision and configure required storage and backup for servers. 
4. Process fiber channel switching, setup, maintenance, and zoning.
5. Manage backup & recovery environments using Veeam, BackupExec, etc.
6. Utilize strong understanding of cloud-based storage and backup technologies.
7. Evaluate, improve, and maintain the information security throughout the storage and backup infrastructure.
8. Monitor and correct critical storage issues and creating recovery processes for hardware failures and performance bottlenecks and configuring alerts for proactive response times.
9. Closely follow industry trends, emerging platforms, and related technology relevant to your area of expertise.
10. Work in an enterprise environment utilizing knowledge of clustering technologies and high availability strategies.
11. Work with Disaster Recovery Exercises/Tests for Backup Recovery and Storage.
12. Plan and deploy Upgrades/Patches on Storage and Backup systems and sub-systems.
13. Utilize knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory and Windows based servers.

Experience Qualifications


Eight (8) or more years of hands-on experience working on Storage and Backup systems and sub-systems. Minimum of five (5) plus years of experience supporting storage environments with high IO and throughput production workloads especially Pure Storage. Minimum of three (3) plus years of experience working with backup technologies like VEEAM, Azure based backups, BackupExec. Experience in managing/provisioning storage LUNs to VMWare ESXi.

Preferred Experience


Experience working with enterprise class storage, SAN’s, NAS, DAS, and other network attached storage, current knowledge of Pure Storage ARRAY’s and Flashblade is a plus. Experience working in the Healthcare Industry will be an added advantage.

Education Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in a computer related field or similar technical field from an accredited institution required.

Professional Certification


Pure Storage support associate or VMCE preferred

Drivers License Required

Yes, must have a valid California Driver's License.

Knowledge Requirement


Strong knowledge in the areas defined but not limited to in the duties and responsibilities section. Comprehensive understanding of how storage on a network works, and how to correct network problems to provide high I/O and reliability. Working understanding and ability to support a variety of file and network storage protocols including Fiber Channel, NFS, iSCSI, SMB.

Skills Requirement


Strong planning, organization, critical thinking, decision-making and communication (verbal and written) skills. Ability to plan, organize and document complex system design activities and to configure systems to be consistent with operational policies/procedures. Ability to communicate technical/complex information both verbally and in writing, as well as perform multiple tasks concurrently and respond to emergency situations effectively. Ability to perform basic network troubleshooting and administrative tasks in a primarily Cisco environment. Able to automate tasks using a scripting language such as Python (preferred) or through configuration management like Puppet, Ansible.

A reasonable salary expectation is between $118,248.00  - $150,779.20, based upon experience and internal equity.
