Position Summary/Position

 

Under the direction of the Manager, Database & Middleware, the Engineer II – Middleware will be focused on assisting in the management and maintenance of IEHP’s middleware application like Apache Tomcat, IIS, Kafka, WebSphere, etc and a passion for debugging complex problems. This role will also be responsible for production code release with support of the IEHP’s AppDev teams.

Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)

 

1. Perform hands-on troubleshooting, optimization, performance tuning, installation, configuration, and design of large, complex enterprise environments based on industry best practices.
2. Support middleware on multiple platforms.
3. Investigate middleware and integration issues to provide resolutions and to develop root cause analyses for supporting maintenance improvements and upgrade planning.
4. Manage middleware team tasks to meet project requirements.
5. Perform production release of software updates/new functionality in partnership with IEHP’s AppDev teams.
6. Perform system monitoring to ensure system operation health to meet service level agreements.
7. Respond to service performance alerts and service interruptions to restore functionality and support customers.
8. Perform capacity planning and performance tuning to prevent issues and minimize service interruptions. Interacts with system and storage teams to perform back-up and recovery procedures for ensuring business continuity.
9. Write documentation to support middleware infrastructure.
10. Maintain good communication with vendors, systems support teams, and local teams as needed; including interfacing with end users and next level management to provide technical consulting.
11. Develop, enhance, debug, support, maintain, and test software applications and associated products.
12. Participate in peer reviews for designs, code, and other work products.
13. Provide 24 x 7 on-call support to ensure application functionality and to minimize disruptions.
14. Monitor the IT Service Management System to resolve customer issues and meet service expectations.

Experience Qualifications

 

The following experience may be concurrent: 
- Minimum of six (6) years of operational support experience is required.
- Experience with server installations, performance tuning and security.
- Minimum six (6) years of experience on Middleware applications like Kafka, IIS, Tomcat, Websphere, WebLogic, performance tuning and managing them in clustered environments.

Education Qualifications

 

Bachelor’s degree in a Computer related field or similar technical field from an accredited institution required.

Drivers License Required

Yes, must have a valid California Driver's License.

Knowledge Requirement

 

- Knowledge of installing, configuring, administering, implementing and performance tuning clustered Middleware environments.
- Knowledge of writing UNIX Shell Scripts (Korn, Bourne), WLST and Python Scripts
- Knowledge on CSR, SSL generations, procurement of certificate.
- Understanding of the JVM and how it operates and optimizing it for best performance and availability; i.e. Garbage Collection, Tuning, etc
- Basic knowledge of DevOps toolsets such as Jenkins, Kubernetes, Docker etc. desirable

Skills Requirement

 

Strong Linux administration skills. Strong planning, organization, critical thinking, decision-making and communication (verbal and written) skills.

Working Conditions

 

Word processing and data entry involving computer keyboard and screens, distribution of supplies and equipment to in-house departments.  Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs.  Items weighing more than 50 lbs. will require assistance when moving.  Back support belts must be worn when lifting, pushing, or pulling items. Projects involving lifting server appliance weights up to 50 lbs. and heavy eye strain with computer monitors.

 

Starting Salary: $103,708.80  - $132,225.60  

Pay rate will commensurate with experience
