Position Summary/Position


Under the direction of the Manager, Communications, the Communications Writer - Certified Chinese Translator, is responsible for providing internal and external communication services that target IEHP Members, Providers, community partners, healthcare agencies, and the Chinese speaking public. The Communications Writer - Certified Chinese Translator will provide strategic support for IEHP’s communications and public relations initiatives and is also responsible for project management from the first stage of creative development to project completion. To develop all materials requested, the Communications Writer - Certified Chinese Translator will work with all applicable departments to develop the strategic/ creative direction and work with Graphic Designers, English Communication Writers, external translation vendors, and Communications Coordinators to make sure all projects are created and delivered on time.

Major Functions (Duties and Responsibilities)


1. Translate communication pieces into Chinese, or from Chinese to English, including Member letters, regulatory material, scripts, brochures, website content and more.
2. Assign projects to external translation vendors, review, edit and conduct quality assurance on all vendor work.
3. Lead development of specified language glossary and style guide to ensure consistency.
4. Deliver a high quality 100% accurate translation from source language to target language.
5. Update projects in online project management tool and ensure all deadlines and deliverables are met.
6. Respond to program changes driven by regulatory requirements. Coordinate the review, modification, and reproduction of any IEHP material impacted by such changes. Regularly update, modify, and reproduce any IEHP printed and online materials that require changes as a result of program changes and/or the regulatory agencies’ review.
7. Ensure IEHP material complies with the reading level required by the regulatory agencies. Run a health literacy assessment (HLA) on all member materials to obtain a 6th grade reading level and keep a record of the assessment. 
8. Ensure all IEHP member materials receive regulatory approval before final production and dissemination.

Experience Qualifications


Three to five (3 -5) years of experience in writing and understanding both written Chinese and English in prior positions.

Education Qualifications


Bachelor’s degree in related field from an accredited institution required.

Preferred Education


Master’s degree from an accredited institution preferred.

Professional Certification


Certified Chinese translator or equivalent preferred.

Drivers License Required

Yes, must have a valid California Driver's License.

Knowledge Requirement


Detail oriented to the translation process and associated audiences. Must understand translation ethic principles and confidentiality. Understands Chinese terminology.

Skills Requirement


Proficient in Chinese and English grammar, computer skills, familiarity with healthcare industry a plus.

Abilities Requirement


Sensitive to cultural nuances, ability to write for a 6th grade reading level.

Starting Salary: $66,040.00  - $84,219.20
